All Kepler Education Projects
The Space Place (for K-5) is a superb web site for elementary age children (and their parents and teachers) featuring fun activities that illustrate science or technology principles and their connection to space missions. The Space Place will develop two web activities over the course of the Kepler Mission. In addition, to reach underserved audiences, such as those in the inner cities and rural areas of the country, Kepler supports the development of a Club Space Place interdisciplinary activity that conveys the relevance of science and technology in space exploration and daily life. Space Place is a good resource for home-schooled children. Space Place distributes materials to libraries and articles to astronomy clubs for newsletters. Space Place partner locations sponsor local events.
Impact: Space Place partners with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America (serving 3 million children) and the Young Women's Christian Association (serving 770,000 girls) to deliver four hands-on activities a year to its members. The Space Place's museum, library and on-line partners are also included in these mailings, thus reaching a potential audience of over 24 million nationwide. Participants are rewarded with special prizes that highlight information about mission science or technology.
Evaluation for the Kepler Space Place product are done in consultation with the Kepler LHS Research, Evaluation, and Assessment (REA) team.
