Dr. Soren Meibom is an Astronomer at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (part of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, Cambridge, MA, USA). His current research focus on stars in open star clusters within our Galaxy, for which we know well fundamental properties like age, mass, distance, and chemical composition.

Dr. Meibom conducts highly precise photometric and spectroscopic measurements with the goals of identifying and characterizing single and binary cluster members, determine binary orbit parameters, measure stellar rotation periods, and search for planetary and brown-dwarf companions. His research program makes synergistic use of ground-based and space-based facilities to investigate the evolution of stars and stellar/planetary systems in open clusters with ages from 3 million years to 10 billion years. As a member of the Kepler science team, Dr. Meibom will use Kepler data to study the relationships between stellar rotation and stellar age and mass, and to search for transiting planets and brown dwarfs in open clusters of different ages.
